Precision Die-Cutting for Industrial Manufacturing

Industrial manufacturers across aerospace, medical, and electronics sectors depend on precision-converted materials to meet strict performance and compliance standards. Bristol Tape Corporation has served these industries since 1950 as a custom converter and distributor of pressure-sensitive tapes, films, foils, and specialty materials. ISO 9001:2015 certified and a 3M Preferred Converter, Bristol Tape brings over 75 years of material science expertise to every project.

Bristol Tape provides high-precision converting capabilities engineered to meet strict operational tolerances. Explore our primary conversion and custom fabrication capabilities below.

High-Tolerance Rotary and Flatbed Die-Cutting

Precision die cutting for industrial applications requires selecting the right method for each material and geometry. We operate both high-speed rotary die cutters and flatbed presses, choosing the approach based on material type, part profile, and production volume.

Rotary die cutting feeds continuous web stock through cylindrical tooling at high speed. This method suits high-volume runs with consistent part profiles on materials such as polyimide (Kapton®), polyester (Mylar®), and copper foil.

Flatbed die cutting applies press force across the full cut area at once. It handles thicker foams, gasket rubber, and parts with intricate geometries that require controlled, even pressure.

Both methods hold the tight tolerances that aerospace and electronics programs demand. We process a broad range of flexible substrate materials, including:

  • Polyimide and polyester films. Kapton® and Mylar® engineered for high-dielectric and thermal insulation applications.
  • Copper and aluminum foils. Thin-gauge conductive metals specified for EMI/RFI shielding and electrical grounding.
  • Foam and rubber. Closed- and open-cell elastomeric constructions designed for environmental and compression sealing.
  • Specialty fabrics. High-performance PTFE and Nomex® materials rated for extreme thermal and chemically harsh environments.

For programs specifying 3M materials, our status as a 3M Preferred Converter provides direct access to technical support and qualified stock that general distributors cannot always source.

Custom Gasket and Component Fabrication

Sealing and insulation components in aerospace and electronics assemblies are rarely standard. Our custom die-cut gaskets are built from materials selected for the specific mechanical, thermal, or electrical requirements of each application.

Our manufacturing engineering team works directly from customer-supplied CAD drawings or assists during initial design stages. Key converted component configurations include:

  • Single-layer gaskets.Single-substrate parts cut from elastomeric foam or PTFE to deliver reliable compression sealing in high-cycle assemblies.
  • EMI and thermal shielding pads.Thin-gauge copper foil and thermal interface laminates engineered to manage electromagnetic interference and heat dissipation simultaneously.

Every part goes through calibrated inspection before shipment. Our ISO 9001:2015 quality system maintains material traceability, dimensional records, and process controls that support qualification packages in aerospace and medical supply chains.

Lead times vary by complexity. Parts available from shelf stock can ship the next day. Built-to-print components with specialized materials typically require four to six weeks. We communicate lead time clearly at the quoting stage so procurement teams can plan accurately.

Prototyping for Complex Designs

Development programs rarely begin with fully locked specifications. Engineers testing new assemblies need prototype parts quickly and often require revisions on a compressed schedule.

Our rotary die cutting services and flatbed capabilities both support prototype production. Parts are cut from the same production-grade materials used in final runs, so mechanical and thermal test results carry over to the production design with confidence. This eliminates material discrepancies between development and production that can delay program timelines.
